Acne Diet Development: Creating the Diet that is Right for Your Skin and Your Stomach
An acne diet sounds like a wonderful idea. Most importantly, who hasn’t heard that eating chocolate gives you zits? We almost all have. So it doesn’t seem so crazy that by watching what you eat could prevent a break out.
But, an acne diet is a very hard thing to establish. It is highly personal and based on your body’s unique responses to food. Progress, for the most part, will be trial and error. Observe and make note of any changes in your skin. Make note of any changes. Taking pictures with your digital camera is a good way to keep a journal. If and when your skin clears, stick to the diet that you were using at that time.
The following guidelines can help get you started on an acne diet:
1. Up your intake of protein. Some dermatologists even believe that protein intake is connected to having clear skin. They believe this because protein has an enzyme in it that limits oil production. Oily skin tends to be more prone to breakouts.
2. Keep away from carbohydrates. Its not necessary to cut out all carbohydrates. But you should try to limit your intake so that they are about 40 percent of your diet. This is because carbohydrates can stimulate oil production. For this reason common knowledge indicates that junk food causes acne. Actually it is just that junk food is high in carbs.
3. Consume green tea. Drinking the real stuff is the best. Brewing the green tea is the best way to drink it. However, if you really don’t like it, then try the natural green tea drinks. Green tea limits androgen production. Androgen is a hormone that will wreak havoc on your skin.
4. Limit your total intake of salt. Iodine is usually found in salt. This is the reason we usually call table salt “iodized salt.” For some people with acne, iodine can be a major inflammatory agent.
In addition to watching your diet, you should carefully watch what you put on your face. If you have acne you are probably already more aware than most people of the ingredients in your beauty products. You should only use moisturizers without oil and natural and organic skin care products. These are the least likely to irritate your skin. If you wear makeup, then consider investing in mineral makeup. If you want to enhance your acne diet and reduce breakouts, you may want to try mineral makeup.
