Get Easy-To-Use purple clay tea cups In Beijing
Produced in the town of Yixing, purple clay is seen as the most suitable of natural materials for teapot production. There’s a place not far from the Beijing Guohong hotel that you just can’t miss.
Purple clay teapots are not only excellent at absorbing the flavor and enriching the aroma of your tea, but they also keep the original taste of it.
I paid a visit to the Chayuan Tea City, which is located on the south end of the Maliandao Tea Street. Here, I found some elegant purple clay teapots and cups in a shop called Qingyi, which literally means “Affection” in English.
As I set my eyes upon the tea cups shown on the shelves, a shop assistant started telling me about the twelve Chinese Zodiac animal cups originally designed by the shopkeeper, Mr. Chen.
I picked up a chocolate-colored one with a miniature rooster on the cover. When I opened the lid, to my surprise, I found a purple clay strainer stuck in the middle. Another miniature rooster stood inside.
This strainer looked like the lid, but there were many holes in it. Pick it up to drop the tea leaves in, and use it to keep the leaves at the bottom of the tea cup when pouring. The tea leaves stay inside while the tea goes through the holes to brew a fragrant cup of tea!
Prices for all of their tea cups are very reasonable, ranging from 20 to 120 yuan (all less than $20 USD!). For teapots, the prices vary greatly by quality, from 50 to 16,000 yuan. In addition, you can find a variety of tea ceremony accessories, little tea sets, and some famous Chinese tea too.
One of the shopkeepers said he was once a Beijing tour guide, so he can speak English. So it’s a great idea to come here and learn about the history of Chinese tea and teaware, all while buying some great gifts!
