Green Tea Leaves Re-used Around The Home
Green tea has been consumed for medical reasons for thousands of years. Some experts say that green tea dates back 4,700 years. As more research has been completed that scientifically proves the health benefits of drinking green tea, more and more people are turning to the world’s oldest beverage. But green tea leaves can be used for more than just making tea.
Take your used tea leaves and get rid of all the water with a strainer. You now should put these tea leaves out in the sun. You should set them on unprinted paper. After 24 hours, flip them over and leave them out in the sun another day. After about two days, your tea leaves will be good and crumbly dry. Your tea leaves should crumble into little pieces. Below are a few things you can do with these amazing leaves.
Carpet Cleaning – With your hands, crush the dried leaves into little pieces and then sprinkle them on your carpet. These crushed leaves will absorb odors and fight bacteria. After several minutes vacuum them up.
Gardening – Green tea leaves can also be sprinkled near plant roots and buried with soil as a natural fertilizer. In fact, a few companies sell dried tea leaves as a fertilizer. Save your money by making your own green tea fertilizer. The tea leaves will give your plants a nitrogen boost which will help them grow.
Deodorizing – Dried green tea leaves are a natural deodorizer. You can use them to deodorize various areas of your home. Crush them and sprinkle them on your dogs bed, then vacuum them up. You can put some in your refrigerator in an uncovered bowl for a few days. Some people even use them to deodorize their hands after slicing garlic or some other strongly scented foods.
Pillow Stuffing – The aroma that comes from the crushed green tea leaves will help you sleep. Make a pillow out of your used tea leaves. The pillow will give off a scent that is not strong enough to keep you awake. Keep in mind that your breath will cause moisture to build up in a tea pillow so you will need to air it out once a week.
Puffy Eyes – Put your crushed tea leaves into a small cotton bag and run it under water. Let the excess water run off then place the cotton bag over your closed eyes for several minutes a day to make those puffy eyes go away. Here is another idea. You can also make your own skin products with your used green tea leaves. You have no doubt seen green tea skin products everywhere because of green teas antioxidant and healing ingredients. Save your money and make your own skin cream from your used green tea leaves.
