Is Wu Yi Tea Special?

Tea has many benefits. Real tea is derived from Camellia sinensis. Oolong (also called wu yi), green, black and white teas are all leaves from this plant, but they are processed differently rendering the various teas.

There are other products that are called tea, but they are not all real tea. Herbal teas are blends of herbs that are sometimes beneficial to health, but other “teas” are merely drinks flavored like tea and then sweetened with HFCS (high fructose corn syrup), flavorings or sugar.

The phytochemicals in real tea are what make them so beneficial to health and potentially, weight loss. Phytochemicals are contained in all plants. When free radicals either enter the body or are produced during digestion, they begin seeking out molecules so they can steal an electron and become neutral.

Unfortunately, by stealing this electron from another molecule in your body, they have now created another free radical and so on and so forth. All of this creates oxidative stress in your body and it begins to break down cell membranes and mutate genetic material inside the cells. This leads to the breakdown of tissue, which leads to organ malfunction (all be it subtle in the beginning), which leads to organ systems not operating efficiently.

And all of this is what leads to aging, disease, lack of energy and poor overall health.

Tea, including wu yi (oolong) tea, contains massive amounts of phytochemicals that are able to fight and neutralize free radicals, preventing the ill effects and also repairing some of the damage. In terms of weight loss, tea contains zero calories. If you merely replace high calorie beverages with this healthier alternative, you will likely lose weight. Diet soda cannot offer the nutrients as tea does, and the artificial sweeteners in diet soda are also linked to increased sugar cravings and weight gain.

The results are even greater when exercise is included because it helps the body burn fat even after exercise is complete.

Wu yi tea has a mild, pleasant taste that is closer to the flavor of the more familiar black tea. White tea is also very delicate in flavor.
